Changes of SaO2 According to The Methods of Extubation after GENERAL Anesthesia in Pediatic Patients

Abstract
Changes of peripheral arterial oxygen saturation(SaO2) were compared accodring to the methods of extubation after general anesthesia in 44 pediatric patients in TaeJon ST. Mary's Hospital between March and May in 1992.
Patients were divided in two groups.
Group I (n=22) ; endotracheal extubation was performed with suctioning by catheter after one or two endotracheal suctions.
Group II (n=22); endotracheal extubation was performed with positive pressure administration of 100% oxygen by reservoir bag simultaneously after one or two endotracheal suctions.
All patients were administered 100% oxygen for one minute after extubation and transferred to recovery room and administered oxygen 3§¤/min by face mask for three minutes.
@ES The results are as follow :
@EN 1) SaO2 was decreased significantly (p<0.05) after extubation in group I compared with control and group II.
2) The number of patients whose SaO2 bellow 95% are increased in group I (77%) compared group II (5%) after endotracheal extubation.
3) SaO2 of all patients were recovered to over 99% after administration of oxygen for three minutes in recovery room.
